Dental Director, Family Health Centers of San Diego
Family Health Centers of San Diego faced a difficult situation when California’s budget crisis led to severe cuts for Denti-Cal, leaving many of San Diego’s low-income families without access to basic dental care.
One of the largest community health centers in California, Family Health Centers of San Diego’s Dental Clinics provide 30,000-40,000 patient visits a year. We provide treatments and procedures such as extractions, fillings, dentures and partials to families experiencing a demonstrated hardship, including the underserved, uninsured and homeless.
The funding we received from Tom’s of Maine’s Dental Health for All program allowed us to serve many of the adults who had no recourse for basic dental care. We find it very rewarding to provide dental care that, in turn, boosts confidence and gives someone a great smile that can help in finding a job. We’ve received thank you notes from many of our patients who are grateful for the work we’ve done for them.
We salute everyone who took a moment to vote for this year’s Dental Health for All finalists!
