Five Healthy Snacks for Work

We’ve all been there: the office clock seems to start ticking in slow motion around 3:00 p.m., boredom sets in, and the urge to snack takes hold. It is crucial to pack a few healthy snacks for work to help you avoid the temptation of a junk-filled vending machine. Need some ideas? Here are a few of my favorite quick, healthy snacks.

Sweet and Salty Trail Mix

In just a few minutes, you can blend sweet and salty dried fruits and nuts for a delicious homemade trail mix that fits in a small reusable container. Try some uncommon combinations such as dried dates and pistachios or dried apricots and almonds. The fiber in the nuts keeps you full while the sweet taste of dried fruit prevents you from reaching for a candy bar at work.

If you love a juicy snack in the afternoon, try a mixture of small, bite-size tomatoes. From grape and cherry to small yellow plum tomato varieties, there are plenty of fresh options waiting at your local farmer’s market. As a bonus, this clean-eating snack doesn’t need to be refrigerated, so it’s the perfect work companion!

Seasoned Hard-Boiled Eggs

If you like to have a snack ready to grab at a moment’s notice, make a batch of hard-boiled eggs at the start of your work week. Eggs in their shell keep well in the refrigerator for several days and pack a nice protein punch to get you through the rest of your day. Spice up the snack with a sprinkle of lemon pepper or paprika. Both are dried seasonings that can be easily stored in a desk drawer.

Hummus and Orange Bell Peppers

Healthy, convenient snacks combine the best of both worlds. Take just a few minutes in the morning to slice a sweet orange bell pepper and tuck it away in a sandwich bag. Pair the crispy vegetable with an individual cup of hummus, a vegetarian dip made from chickpeas, as one of your go-to healthy snacks for work. To mix things up, try several flavors of hummus, such as spinach, garlic, or roasted red pepper.

Creamy Fruit Smoothie

Pack a few servings of fruit into your day by sipping on a raw fruit smoothie during your break. For extra convenience, make your smoothie the night before and have it ready to go in the refrigerator when you leave the house in the morning. It’s easy to travel with a bottle in your purse or day bag and tuck it into the refrigerator at work until snacktime.
