Natural Beauty Products: Why I Made The Switch

Becoming a parent changed a lot of things in my life, but one thing I never would have imagined it would affect was my choice in makeup. Having a daughter has opened my eyes to the importance of using natural beauty products.

Dress-Up Time

It honestly threw me for a loop having a child who loves all things pink, frilly, and glittery; I’ve never been much of a “girly” girl myself. The first time she asked me if she could put on some makeup for dress-up play, I agreed. But I instantly realized the dust-covered bag of lipstick and blush—which I only occasionally used—seemed a little scary for her delicate skin.

I suggest researching natural beauty products for some great all natural makeup and nail polish made just for kids and dress-up play. My daughter loved giving us both makeovers with her new supplies, but every time I reached for my own lip gloss or nail polish, she still wanted to try mine. Sometimes you need to make a change to your own products too (I did, not only to protect my daughter, but to protect myself as well).

Natural Products Expose Natural Beauty

One of the reasons I’ve never worn much makeup is because it has always felt heavy and awkward. I’ve discovered that natural products, like the Tom’s of Maine Natural Lip Gloss, feel light and clean on my face. I actually enjoy using them.

In addition to feeling better, switching to natural products means I no longer scramble to come up with excuses every time my daughter asks to put on some lip gloss or paint her toenails “like Mommy.” Instead, you can just relax and enjoy having fun together.

What to Look For

If you want to make the switch to natural beauty products, the key, just like with food and household items, is to read labels and keep an eye on their ingredients. Look for products that are made with natural or organic ingredients, as well as those that are free of chemicals, preservatives, and artificial dyes. Many people also choose to avoid parabens and phthalates according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).natural makeup compact

It can be confusing at first, but the more you check labels, the easier it becomes to discover the best product for you. And the more you know about what goes into your makeup, the more comfortable and confident you will feel—which is just as important to looking great as anything you put on your face.
